Dye Testing & Dye Flooding
Dye testing is an effective means to identify potential sources of inflow in our municipal sewer systems. These illicit sources can include roof drains, driveway drains, yard drains and sump pumps that may be connected to sewer lines. EST performs dye testing by introducing non-toxic dye into these potential inflow sources and then tracing the path of the dye to confirm or disprove connectivity with the sanitary sewer. Dye testing is typically performed after suspected inflow sources are identified during building inspections.
Dye flooding, typically performed in conjunction with CCTV inspections, is one of the most reliable means to locate both direct and indirect cross connections. During the dye flooding process, EST performs CCTV inspections of the sanitary sewer to inspect and document specific locations where the dyed water is observed to be flowing into the sanitary sewers. Flow measurements are collected to quantify flows. EST also inspects manholes located near the flooded storm sewer are also inspected for defects including leaking frame seals and wall joints. Dye flooding is typically performed after identifying problem areas during smoke testing.
