Water Quality Monitoring
Turnkey Landfill, Rochester, NH
Waste Management, Inc. is the largest waste management company in the United States. EST provided water quality monitoring and related field services at the 1,300-acre Turney Landfill site in Rochester, NH. It is estimated that the facility contains over twenty (20) million tons of solid waste. The site includes a vast network of monitoring wells and a leachate collection system.
EST environmental monitoring services included quarterly groundwater, surface water, and leachate sampling services requiring the collection of over one hundred (100) samples annually. Groundwater samples were collected in accordance with EPA Low Flow Sampling Procedures. EST measured static water level, pH, temperature, conductivity, oxidation reduction potential (ORP) and dissolved oxygen prior to sample collection. Groundwater samples requiring dissolved metals analysis were field filtered to 0.45 micron. EST ensured that all samples are collected in accordance with EPA approved methods, preserved in accordance with 40 CFR part 136 and prepared for delivery to Waste Management’s contract laboratory. All work was performed in strict accordance with EST’s Corporate Health and Safety Plan, OSHA standards, and approved Waste Management practices.
Pease International Tradeport was developed as a result of the redevelopment of the former Pease Air Force Base which was closed under Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission action in the late 1980s and early 1990s. As part of an extensive environmental remediation effort, comprehensive environmental sampling programs have been established to monitor the movement of plumes containing chlorinated solvents, heavy metals, PCBs, and other contaminants. As part of this initiative, EST performed environmental sampling and monitoring services at the expansive site over a six-year period.
Republic owns or operates 195 active landfills in the United States including several in Massachusetts. EST provided water quality monitoring and related environmental field services at Massachusetts landfills in Chicopee, East Bridgewater, Fall River, Halifax, Plainville, and Randolph. EST’s services included field measurements of static water level, pH, temperature, conductivity, oxidation reduction potential (ORP) and dissolved oxygen prior to sample collection.
