Town of Needham, MA Flow Monitoring and I/I Related Inspection Services (2013-Present)

The Town of Needham is a suburb located approximately 10 miles west of Boston.  The Town’s collection system consists of approximately 130 miles of gravity sewer which convey approximately 4.25 million gallons of wastewater to the MWRA interceptor system per day. During an average year approximately 66% of Needham’s flows to the MWRA are inflow/infiltration and during certain times of year that percentage peaks at approximately 82% of the total flow. EST was contracted by the Town’s engineering consultant to identify potential Inflow and Infiltration sources within the Town’s collection system.

This project involved continuous flow monitoring at multiple locations throughout the Town and CCTV inspections of more than 150,000 linear feet of sewer line. Permanent flow monitoring equipment installed by EST included telemetry and data hosting. This allowed the town’s engineer to access flow monitoring data on a 24/7 basis on the project’s internet portal.  All work was performed in accordance with EST’s corporate health & safety requirements and applicable DOT and OSHA procedures.
